There are various beaches located throughout the region that make for a great day out. Just be cautious of stingers!
With Free entry and being located right in the heart of the city, the architecturally pleasing Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a popular swimming spot for many locals and tourists alike. This beautifully designed space is approx. 4800sqm and offers a year round salt water location that is free of stingers, sharks and crocodiles whilst still providing a pristine view of the ocean.
There are also a load of freshwater swimming locations located not far from Cairns. These are a must to explore and make for a great escape from the mainstream. We highly recommend visiting the waterfall locations, especially after it has rained!
Whenever you are around any water holes, creeks, rivers or beaches in FNQ be very aware that there may be crocodiles present in these locations.
